Consent to informational text messages

This page explains exactly how invited participants join the H BAR LLC text-message program for The Informed working group.

Relationship: The Informed is an invite-only collaborative working group sponsored and administered by H BAR LLC. The group brings together invited environmental scientists and other collaborators. H BAR LLC operates and is responsible for the messaging program.

What messages participants receive

This is a small, invite-only, non-marketing program for approximately four or five known working-group participants. The group helps busy participants stay current with environmental-science research and projects in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Messages may include relevant research or project updates; meeting, task, schedule, and deadline reminders; participant-requested informational reminders; account or system updates relevant to the participant; and direct replies to questions the participant sends.

Messages may be sent automatically by the working group's server. H BAR LLC does not use this program for advertising, promotions, lead generation, or purchased contact lists.

How to opt in

  1. An existing working-group participant receives an invitation outside SMS—for example in person, by phone, by email, or in the group's private online workspace. The group's decision that SMS would be useful does not enroll anyone automatically.
  2. The participant reviews this disclosure, including the frequency, rate, privacy, HELP, and STOP terms below.
  3. The participant voluntarily texts the single keyword START to +1 252-600-2793.
  4. H BAR LLC records the inbound START message, mobile number, date, and time as the participant's consent record and sends the confirmation shown below.

H BAR LLC does not send an unsolicited initial SMS asking a person to consent. A general question sent to the number does not enroll the sender in recurring messages; the sender must separately text START after reviewing this disclosure.
