SMS terms & conditions
Terms for working-group messages
Effective and last updated July 31, 2026.
Legal sender: H BAR LLC, an Alaska limited liability company.
Relationship: The Informed is an invite-only collaborative working group sponsored and administered by H BAR LLC. The group brings together invited environmental scientists and other collaborators. H BAR LLC operates and is responsible for the messaging program.
Program description
This is a small, invite-only, non-marketing SMS program for known working-group participants. The program helps participants with busy work and personal schedules stay current with environmental-science research and projects in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Messages may include relevant research or project updates; meeting, task, schedule, and deadline reminders; participant-requested informational reminders; relevant account or system updates; and direct replies to participant questions. Some messages may be sent automatically by the working group's server.
- Recurring messages: Message frequency varies, up to 40 messages per month per participant.
- Charges: Message and data rates may apply.
- Opt out: Reply STOP at any time to cancel. A final confirmation may be sent.
- Help: Reply HELP for help, or email info@theinformed.org.
- Consent is voluntary: Consent to receive SMS messages is not a condition of purchase or participation in any unrelated service.
Consent and eligibility
Only invited adult working-group participants may join. The group's general agreement that an SMS feature would be useful does not enroll any individual. To opt in, each participant must separately follow the process on the SMS Consent page and text START to +1 252-600-2793. Consent applies only to this H BAR LLC campaign and to the mobile number that provided it. Consent is not transferable.
A participant is responsible for providing a mobile number they are authorized to use and for keeping it current. If a number changes owners, the new owner must provide separate consent.
Cancellation and re-enrollment
Reply STOP to any program message to cancel recurring messages. H BAR LLC will honor the opt-out and will not resume recurring messages unless the participant later provides new consent by texting START. Other carrier-recognized opt-out keywords may also be honored.
Delivery and availability
Carriers are not liable for any delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on carrier networks, compatible devices, and services outside H BAR LLC's control. H BAR LLC may change or discontinue the SMS program, but stopping the program does not limit a participant's ability to contact the working group by email.
Privacy
H BAR LLC handles mobile information and consent as described in the SMS Privacy Policy. Mobile information and opt-in consent are not sold, rented, transferred, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Changes to these terms
H BAR LLC may update these terms by posting a revised effective date. If the subject matter of recurring messages changes materially, H BAR LLC will obtain new consent where required rather than treating prior consent as permission for a different campaign.
Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alaska, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Questions may be sent to info@theinformed.org.
